Naturally, we were brought up on a healthy dose of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie adventures: their perfect, plump, cherubic faces are as iconically Australian as cheesy-mite scrolls and Saturday arvo footy. You can imagine our excitement when we had the opportunity to collaborate - swapping nostalgic memories of Banksia Man and Rugged Blossom. Hand on heart, this is our proudest collaboration yet.
But what make this even more special is because of the amazing woman behind the Snugglepot and Cuddle Pie story, May Gibbs. If you don’t know much about her already, she is a seriously inspiring and impressive lady boss. Against all odds, May found a way to tell a story of conservation and environmentalism, defied expectations and became an unconventional, savvy businesswomen, and created our first local non-indigenous fairy tales. We think she is one of the great untold female artists who shaped the Australian artistic and children’s literature landscape.
May also bequeathed the copyright for her designs to two charities - the Northcott Disability Services, and the Cerebal Palsy Alliance - ensuring those in need will continue to benefit from her entrepreneurialism long after her passing. Hats off to May, right!?
The collection is really something special - including KIDS and TINY bedding and sleepwear. We really hope these will become family heirlooms and will introduce Snugglepot and Cuddle Pie, and May Gibbs, to a whole new generation.
